Middle School

Philosophy

Our Middle School curriculum focuses on independent thought and enquiry. We encourage our learners to think critically as they navigate new concepts and ideas within mathematics, the sciences, languages, humanities and the arts. We focus on educating the whole student and provide learners with quality pastoral care as they make the transition from our Lower School.

The ACS Middle School programme adopts a holistic attitude to education. We place intercultural competence and effective communication at the heart of our teaching. We situate learning within context and emphasise interdisciplinary connections between subject areas. Through the use of innovative teaching methods, we equip our students with the academic skills required to successfully complete the rigorous IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). Our aim is to develop engaged, globally-minded young people who are well-prepared for the challenges of high school and beyond.

We provide our students with a close-knit community at every stage of their learning journey. Our students come from over 70 countries, and we consider our diversity to be one of our principal strengths. We also stress the importance of entrepreneurship and accountability, and our student leadership and governance programmes provide the ideal platform for developing these skills.

Really good teachers. Really good people.
MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT

About The Programme

The ACS Middle School curriculum is based on the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and focuses on developing young people though holistic learning, effective communication and global-mindedness. Students study with specialist teachers and gain knowledge across the following disciplines:

  • Language and literature (English)
  • Language acquisition (French or Spanish)
  • Mathematics
  • Sciences (incorporating all scientific disciplines)
  • Individuals and societies (incorporating history and geography)
  • Arts (drama, music and the visual arts)
  • Design (incorporating product and digital design)
  • Physical and health education

The IB MYP develops each student in his or her entirety. As such, throughout Middle School, our learners engage in courses and activities that enhance personal wellbeing, promote social consciousness and support service within the community.
